Demolition is underway
of the Hereford St Strip Club to make way for the new East Frame Residential development. The well-known mural of Calendar Girls will be missed by many. Calendar Girls’ General Manager Scott McCormick felt the mural had “done its course and brought excitement to a very sober city at that time”.

Murals on the Manchester St car park are being crunched into dust after a call to save the artworks failed.
Artist Chris Finlayson, who painted the murals in 1995 with Dean Blundell, had hoped the transportation artworks could be saved.
A Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) spokesman said last month that any attempt to preserve the murals would come at a significant cost to taxpayers, as they were painted directly on the walls. Read more…

The Manchester St car parking building will be dust by the start of November.
The building had been cordoned off since the February 2011 earthquake and while it had appeared to stand up well, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) said the shear walls had suffered both quake damage and damage caused by engineering investigations.
Workers started demolishing the structure on August 12 to make room for the widening of Manchester St and proposed eastern frame project. Read more…
